Solutia has three world-leading business units serving the architectural, transportation, energy, manufacturing and consumer products markets - Advanced Interlayers, PVB and EVA interlayers for glass and encapsulants for solar modules; Performance Films, aftermarket and specialty films; and Technical Specialties chemicals and specialty materials. Each business offers leading brands, global capabilities and outstanding technical support.
Solutia's Performance Films division was founded in 1955 by Julius Hermes. Originally named Martin Processing, the company specialized in developing dyeing technology for polyester yarn and other materials. In 1987, the Hermes family sold Martin Processing to the British global firm of Courtaulds, which named the company Courtaulds Performance Films. In 1999, the company, by this time named CPFilms Inc., became a subsidiary of Solutia Inc., a world-class chemical company headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
The Performance Films division manufactures films that provide comfort, aesthetics, energy savings, safety and security when applied to glass. We work directly with a variety of designers, manufacturers and customers to develop products that improve efficiency and performance and offer the industry's widest array of film technologies, produced in a clean-room environment to ensure optimum quality. In addition, we are a leading supplier of high-value precision coated films and film components to a variety of businesses, including solar and renewable energies and the electronic display industry, sold under the Flexvue™ films brand.
Solutia is the world's leading manufacturer and marketer of high-quality aftermarket window films for the automotive and architectural markets through the Vista®, LLumar®, V-KOOL®, Hüper Optik®, Sun-X®, IQue™, nanoLux® and FormulaOne® High Performance Auto Tint™ brands, as well as Gila®, the U.S. leader in do-it-yourself window films.
With approximately 75% of revenues coming from outside the United States, Solutia is a truly global company.
